A blog series for busy brides : Sift Bakehouse AZ

In my next post in A Blog Series for Busy Brides I want to introduce y’all to Katie with Sift Bakehouse. Just being in Katie’s presence is FUN, she is so sweet and passionate about her craft. Katie’s work speaks for it’s self, she truly has a talent to create art through her gorgeous desserts. Here’s what Katie had to share!

1) Tell us a little about yourself!

Hi! I’m Katie Frederick, owner and cake artist of sift bakehouse! I’m a self-taught baker who creates cakes and treats for weddings and events alike! I specialize in handpainted cakes and coordinating dessert tables.

2) What do you love most about what you do?

I love doing tasting and consultations with couples for weddings! Sitting down and designing a piece of art to reflect their unique relationship for their special day brings me so much joy. When I get to learn the details of their day, from the “how we met” down to their linen choice I am inspired!

3) What’s one piece of advice you’d give to a couple planning their perfect wedding day (specifically pertaining to your industry)?

My best advice would to be to trust your caker! You should absolutely share your ideas in mind for colors, textures, design etc, but overall if you allow a creative some freedom to play I think you will all benefit. Pinterest is a great place to start for inspiration, but my tag line is “Think Outside the Cake Box” and I mean it!

4) If there were one thing you could change within your industry, what would it be and why?

Because baked goods are universally known, from your childhood favorite cookies to decadent restaurant desserts, I think they are often undervalued. You can purchase inexpensive treats from your neighborhood grocery store in comparison to boutique bakeries. However, what separates those cakes and goodies from the professional bakers is quality and artistic value. There are lots of options for treats on your day and definitely other big expenses to budget for, but I hope that vendors and couples alike can come to understand the investment that is in the wedding cake!

Thank you so much for reading a little bit about one of my favorite wedding day friendors! Next up is the incredible Andrea with The Clayton Venues!
